Why do I get emotionally exhausted after cold calling someon

Postby breathetoprosper » Thu Mar 04, 2021 12:41 pm

I am a life insurance agent and do cold-calling for a living. But lately, I struggle doing 1 phone call a day.

I don't have any problem or anxiety or reluctance getting on the phone, and the phone experience is fine as I usually get them to talk, and the conversation goes fine as these are business owners and see you are hustling, so respect is usually there.

What happens is afterward. I get emotionally super-drained and quickly find that one hour passes by like a minute and so productivity goes down the drain, as the day quickly ends without me doing the volume I need. I want to be doing better, but something is wrong as I need to constantly recharge between calls.

Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

Could be a number of reasons. Maybe you don't truly believe in what you are selling. Maybe when you fail to make a sale you are taking rejection personally. Maybe the phone call reminds you that this is not how you want to live your life, cold call after cold call. Maybe it is a mix of all of these.

Something about the act drains your motivation. While you are not reluctant to get on the phone, to cold call means mentally preparing for rejection. Your body will naturally inject a small bit of "fight/flight" chemicals into your body, i.e. dopamine. Maybe after the call this artificial high goes away, so you feel drained.
