Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

Postby tinaa » Tue Feb 26, 2013 4:56 pm

Can obsessive compulsive disorder also be just mind related as opposed to the physical side of the disorder?

For example obsessive negative thinking which you have become unable to control. Thoughts of death and gut feelings that something bad is going to happen, always thinking the worst etc etc

And thinking out things that need doing over and over again in your head but to no positive or physical outcome because thinking of these tasks occurs that much in your mind that when it comes to physically doing them you are unable because you have worn yourself out and exhausted your brain just thinking about it

It becomes that much of a regular routine in your brain that when it comes to explaining it you don't know where to start and you feel like people can not understand what you are trying to explain.

I see OCD mainly as a physiological problem in that it seems to be triggered by the overproduction of stress hormones resulting from an medical abnormality. The most common cause of overproduction of stress hormones is hypoglycemia. This is a common "silent" disease that causes the body to over-produce stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol (normally they function to help us focus) that are responsible mood disorders, such as OCD. This can be treated by going on a Hypoglycemic Diet.

When you suffer from ocd, this can also result in compulsive thinking, like e.g. If you hear somebody calling you while you are busy, and you know that person is coming to talk to you soon, you then hear the person approaching, and your thought might be I HAVE TO FINISH WRITING THIS WORD BEFORE HE/SHE GETS HERE.... Nobody will know the tension your mind/body goes through at that moment, yet it is compulsive behaviour.
