Suggestibilty test over Text

Postby WhondFreak » Sat May 05, 2018 7:31 pm

I have been thinking about how to perform suggestibility tests over text. I know for sure it can be done. But i also feel that it looses some of its power. Because all the suggestibility tests are really focused on having a person focus on a certain point or having them close their eyes and imagine stuff. Sure you can have them trying to imagine stuff in their hands with their eyes open but that would be much harder since you are already getting the information from your eyes that it's nothing there.
So what do you guys think, how do you go about doing a suggestibility test that works well or is tailored for text based hypnosis? Specially for new subjects that havent experienced hypnosis before and don't know what to expect ?

How are these new subjects first identified? Is it through online acquisition or in real life, i.e. face to face?

It's Online. Through an app where you get to connect with people around you. And i get some people who show a slight hint of interest in hypnosis and want to know how it works and such. So I thought a suggestibility test would be perfect for that. Both for figuring out how suggestible they are but also for them to experience the power of their own mind. And from there maybe get interested in testing an induction and explore the world of hypnosis :)

Okay...so this is online. Can you send me an example of a suggestibility test...a single example of what you think might work...or an example of something you believe has worked in the past. That way I can get an idea of what you mean.

Well as I said. I was asking for a way to apply a suggestibility test over text. I don't know any. But lets just take the oldie but goodie book and balloon one. Where you ask them to close their eyes and then imagine a book, a really heavy book in their hand wich is facing the roof and then imagining various coloured helium balloons on the other hand. You know how it goes. But that particular test uses the persons imagination. And it is alot easier to think of something in your head. Then to actually portray an imaginary book to appear infront of your open eyes.

I guess one way you can mix it upp is instead of having them put up their hands infront of them. They can raise them up on their sides while they stay focused on the screen. That way you are not actively seeing your hands and therefore may be alittle easier to imagine that there is a book there.

I am just making assumptions right now, but does it sound reasonable ?

A person texting typically uses both hands and visual and is sitting down. I would use a suggestion of heavy feet or some variation.

Ohh yeah that is true, Very smart. So if like the person have had a long day you can like emphasize that their legs are feeling heavy as they sit down to finally relax those muscles. And as they focus on that feeling, having them imagining a weight around their feets making them heavier. Infact that they are sticking to the floor as they get heavier and heavier. Almost as if they are cemtented to the floor. A part of the floor. And so forth.

And then have them try and lift them to find that they are stuck to the floor.

Do you have any other ideas? And what do you think about my application ?

In comparison to what alternatives?

I’m not sure the interactive component of text based is more appealing than an instructional video, audible, face to face, or a program that uses audio/biofeedback (wearable tech with voice, e.g. alexa/siri).

Texting seems to be labor intensive and is based on a good faith relationship. I can just be a troll and tell you my feet are now stuck to the floor, I can’t feel my back, I’m starting to have difficulty breathing...help me...I didn’t expect this...what do I do? As the person sending texts you have no way of knowing what is actually going on.

That is true. Although hypnosis can be just as effective over text. I have had plenty of succesfull text based induction. Some of which have been confirmed later when I met them in person. But I get your point. There are people out there that likes to roleplay and just do that with text based hypnosis. But those (atleast who i have met) who do that are already really into hypnosis and roleplaying. The people I am meeting now have never experienced it or even thought about it much. So I doubt when they get interested in trying that they would just fake it?

And also I am much better at text based hypnosis. I am trying to get better at face to face. But what happens most of the time I just can't put sentences togheter, as I can do over text. So it's not fluent and that is a really big problem if you want to have a succesfull session.

If I’m bad at socializing and want to get better, should I spend my time and energy on developing ways to avoid socializing? Would that not be counterproductive?

You are missing the point here. I said i was already working on it. And also why I want to know this is because not all the time am I gonna able to meet the person face to face.

I understand what you are wanting to focus on.

My question...out of all the ways you can choose to spend your time and socialize with other people, when you cannot meet a person face to face, why not pursue other activities? Why not read, workout, go for a walk, and save hypnosis for those times when you are able to meet?

And what stops a video chat? No bandwidth available?

I guess I’m trying to understand the scope of application. It sounds like it is a crutch being designed to keep people isolated from each other.

Have you heard of the law of unintended consequences?

I am meeting people and socializing almost everyday. I do that stuff too. But I also want to be able to deal with text based induction if the opportunity arises, for example when you meet someone Online.

Okay. Well, I think you are on the right track.

When I first read the thread I assumed it was about helping other people learn about hypnosis. I thought that was the goal. I misunderstood.

Given it is about your preferred comfort zone in text based messaging, I think you develop some individual scripts just for you, like we discussed regarding heavy feet. Write it out. Write a handful of scripts saved to a file that you can use so that you don't need to come up with texts spontaneously. You might even take the time to memorize them.

I have a few induction scripts i have already written. But i don't use them much. Mostly just grab a sentence here and there during the first minutes of the induction. Then i wing it.

But back to the original focus on this post. Text based suggestibility tests. I want to get some insight from others what they think about it. And how they would apply or build them. Your "Heavy feet" idea was a really good one. Do you have more? Or maybe even a whole new angle to take?
