I have to say that personally, and I'm sure there are others, I'm not actually sure exactly what "emotional intelligence" is or means. Something I haven't given much thought to before, maybe I'll do a search or two and see what comes up?

It's not a status, not a position, and sadly in the terms of this forum.. say, what is it to be wise? You'll never take that, you build that. It's not a game. You don't enherent that.

Wisdom isn't a thing, an attribute, it's a work over time.

What is it to be emotionally intelligent, to understand this mess all around you, but also to better understand yourself. To have struggled, fumbled, made huge mistakes and cared about the outcome, and sorted out how to engage better.

Emotional intelligence isn't a thing, it's a description of a complicated individual work. It's not even i raw ntelligence, it's sanity. Brutal honesty doesn't cover easily, people are so dearly entrenched in superstition, religion, culturally infused mind f'ing ways.

To understand every word you say or choose not to say, every expression made real and all all those not expressed and HOW YOU GO ABOUT ALL THIS... That's your contribution to culture/civilizatiin.

People get so caught up with their business they myopically focus on games, ignoring human beings, and other expressions of life.

I'm sorry, there are no simple words of direction. The sooner you realize some things.. words are evocative in sharing. When there is no work, no comprehension, how can any words evoke a shared understanding? There is no contextualization of reality to even begin to start a dialog.

You should have asked about Emotional delusions. Intelligence requires formative works, which sadly don't exist.

I would think that people who have high can know and control his/ her emotion, not easy to get angry; can always think positive and feel confident; know other difficulties and always help others. This kind of people should make you feel more energetic when you are with them.

idk any of the meaning

but emotional intelligence to me simply mean how good you control how you feel and what you do

we are humans and we cant 100% control how we feel, but emotional intelligence makes a pleasant difference

I don't know if we can "master" EQ, but we can certainly practice it. I think, as others have already said, EQ = being honest and persistent in one's self-examination and acknowledging mistakes; and it also means perceiving what is going on with other people and knowing how to relate to others in general.

Perhaps there is some muddling between intelligence and understanding.
Many people have the capacity to play games in their minds, which are considered intelligent, but in actually are completely delusional. Let's be sure, delusional misinterpretations of reality affect those caught up in then and affect those around then. Delusions matter! Words are evocative of subtly different meanings between people.

Emotional intelligence perhaps should have a different word, understanding someone else brutally honestly, they're motivations, past experiences, quirks of personally, and spontaneous eruptions of creative and imagination. Oh wait, that's a godlike power of understanding... and yet that's what emotional understanding is. You can't be a God, so what. All you can do is shoot for better/imperfect understanding, and take responsibility for your work and it's consequences... Hmm, ever better taking responsibility for the consequences of your projections of future outcomes and there's only one thing to do, learn from the inevitable mistakes, when you actually try. People playing games of exploit in business, banking, geopolitical cabols matter--they love lies.

Better, of all the words in my language I ADORE the word better. I DON'T LOVE LANGUAGE. Better requires context, history, understanding, growth... There is no better without understanding what existed before and how insane it was. BETTER demands growing in understanding over time!

I agree mostly, but there are problems with this definition.

I recently corrected a very large NGO when they claimed that smiling is universal. Research shows that smiling is in fact a culturally-learned communication, and smiling has limited scope of possible meanings in the western culture, but smiling can take very different meanings in non-western cultural settings.

EQ seems to me a philosophical debate on the topic of how consistently we measure interactions in the western working culture, and it is useful for the reasons you highlight. However, it also seems to me that any 'learned' view of the world can become a mindset that makes it difficult for us to see things in another way - and in that sense EQ could be harmful.
