How to deal with argumentative people

Postby rmb » Sat Jun 05, 2004 2:58 am

One of the toughest things I've ever tried to do in my life is learn to deal with people who are really, really argumentative (that can not be avoided). Some people have an argumentative tone of voice that just makes you absolutely want to pull your hair out. It would be really nice if there was some type of mental thought process I could turn on to help me deal with this type of person (that would help me not let their lack of emotional control have an effect on me). Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for this? Thanks.

Perception and acceptance work for me.
THAT person is exactly as they are meant to be at -that- given time. We cannot control that, it is -their- choice. Accepting that is the key. They are what they are because of the people/places and things that they have experienced, because of how they perceived it, and how they 'learnt' to react to it.
And so are we.
If we are no better, no worse. Just different perceptions of different experiences, with different reactions.
Ultimately, we can all be argumentative. -That- person is simply a manifested version of what we ourselves are capable of. Accept this and you can grow in inner awareness. Deny this and you will probably end up being exactly the same in time.

By argumentative, do you mean bullying? I have encountered bullies and am hopeless at dealing with them. ANy tips welcomed!
