Tattoos

Postby Lovelyella » Thu Sep 20, 2018 2:13 pm

Hello everyone,

I am curious to know about workplace experiences you have been through with yourself having tattoos or others.
I would like to get a couple tattoos, but in places that will be visible with a short sleeve on. I’d like to work in the mental health field and with children, but I do not want to jeapordize anything with this controversy.

Too many factors. Different cultures react differently to tattoos, and the type of tattoo. One thing is certain, outside of a few unique workplaces, tattoos generally don’t work in your favor. At best they are treated as neutral, but never positive.

It really boils down to personal choice and whether or not you are willing to accept the potential downside.

What kind of tattoo? I have one, but it's not at all offensive, just a reminder. No issues from that in the work place that I've gotten so far.

I also own my own company, so many that's different.

I want to get sunflowers on my shoulder.
That is a bit different, but thank you for your feedback.

So get sunflowers on your shoulder and then fully expect that people will treat you like someone with a tattoo of sunflowers on your shoulder. There is no way around marking your body with a symbol and then people ignoring or not having an opinion about that symbol. Some will be positive, others neutral, and some negative.

It is not right or wrong to mark your own body. Equally, it is not right or wrong for people to have an opinion about marking your body.

Lovelyella, how about a temporary tattoo to see how you like it and how people react to it?

Personally I think tattoos are hideous. A tattoo is for life, and you may come to regret the whim you have now.
