A man in a powerful position within a community tends to reach out to the weak, the poor, the sick, the ex-convict. He treats them with compassion, helps them financially, comes to their weddings and funerals. The people that he cares for, are impressed by his empathy and help. Of course, they see him in a favorable light.
Now, when he deals with people that are in a (real or perceived) powerful position in the same community, his attitude may be completely different. His attitude may show a total lack of empathy. He will try to get them to do what he wants, manipulate them, and may do this in an unrefined way. He may bulldozer his way around, inconsiderate of other people's feelings. He may harass them. These people end up badly wanting him out of the community. This sounds like a narcissistic personality disorder. However, this doesn't add up with the first part...
Then there are his students, his followers. He may hurt them too. However, most of them will defend him at all cost. One or two will opt out.
There are rumors (which I am not able to verify at this point) that the man fires anyone who makes a more favorable, learned, smarter, nicer impression than him.
It's hard to understand how these two opposed behaviors are combined in one and the same person. I would like to know if there is a name for this personality (disorder). Thanks in advance!
