Boyfriends anger

Postby WorriedGirl92 » Sun Sep 07, 2014 4:45 pm

Hi,

I'm not really sure if I've found the right forum but I'm after some advice.

My boyfriend has an anger problem, but he's convinced he doesn't have one.
We celebrated our 4 year anniversary last week so I've been aware of he's issue for some time now.
When I mention he's anger to he's mum or sister they both say how angry he use to get as a child and how he'd hit himself, scream Ect..

It's always freaked me out a little but the last few months I've become terrified when he gets in a mood. He's never hit me but he has shoved me a few times.
I try to not speak when he's in a mood but sometimes I need to ask him to calm down because he's scaring me or our pets, that just makes it worse. When he's not swearing at me he's telling me to leave. But, when he's finally calmed down he acts like nothing's happened!

I've tried to say nicely that I think he may have an anger problem but that just starts more trouble.

I don't know what to do...

By shoving you, he's expressing physical aggression. This shouldn't happen.
He swears at you, and that's verbal aggression. This shouldn't be happening either.
Regardless of the context.

How about shifting your focus off him, and back onto yourself? I suggest you come with what you will and will not tolerate in the relationship, and communicate it to him. It's all about boundaries. Down the road, if this man you are with is unable or unwilling to respect your boundaries, then you may have to consider if the relationship is right for you.

We all have challenges in relationships, I call it paying the rent for the enjoyable stuff that we like about being together. This rent reads like it's way too high? Only you know for sure
