Angry when drunk

Postby ChrisMorant » Mon Jul 28, 2014 12:35 pm

Lately, I've been feeling anger more than I normally would. Obviously anger is natural, but it seems when I drink I can't help it. I get angry when sober but I can control myself.

Now before anyone says, I have been drunk but sociable too without losing it. So what i'm asking is what should I do? I'm starting anger management in 2 months but I want to know is there anything I can do in the meantime to combat these emotions?

Alcohol loosens the inhibitions. Maybe you have repressed anger feelings that come flooding out when you drink.

Not drinking only deals with the symptoms, but getting some kind of therapy could cure the problem. Do you recall what you were angry about when you were intoxicated? Do your friends tell you? That might be a good starting point.

Limit alcohol and see your doctor or try to attend an anger management session

Don't drink and you should seek help on how to control your anger.

you should try drinking less. Marijuana has always been a great way to relieve yourself of anger.

"In wine there is truth."
I'm more affable and funny when drunk. Things don't seem so serious.
Eric Berne says alcohol disables the "parent" in us, the superego, so the child can then emerge.

Maybe the OP has trouble "standing up for [him/her]self when we're sober."

Trying to deal with the anger without dealing with the probable drinking problem seems destined to failure.

Separating the two, namely ceasing the substance abuse, while pursuing a therapeutic solution to the anger issues would be the best way to address the issues. When substance abuse is involved makes it hard to separate the problems and initiate effective treatment.

Yes, just choose to use a different drug. That will solve the problem.

One important moment, do you feel anger towards your relatives, friends or to unfamiliar people?
