There was a post on the mailing list a while ago about how the brain sees and interprets words and thought that this may be of interest:

Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

Being dyslexic not a fair test - But I had no idea that there was anything wrong, until seeing the "slef" word - which I get to to see this every day as an unchangable typo, thus instinctively knew there was something wrong with it.
