Low on self-esteem and talentless

Postby LittleMissScrewup » Tue Jul 19, 2016 11:15 am

I do not have very high self-esteem, and I lack confidence. It used to be the opposite, but about five years ago when my brother did drugs and became abusive, it all started to dwindle. My artwork is mediocre at best, and I feel like I am sub-par when playing an instrument, though I can be good sometimes, but that is rare. I am not very good at bowling, either, and that is something I used to like.

I don't seem to have a talent or purpose in life. Whenever I try something, I fail 80% of the time, and give up. I don't even feel like trying anything anymore.

Two things;

-1- Remember that failure is part of success. Only 80% failure? That means 1 time in 5 you are successful. Artists fail hundreds of times. Athletes, inventors, writers, musicians all fail, fail and fail again. It is because of embracing failure as an inevitable part of the process that great people succeed. Persistence is key. It sounds like you think of failure as a bad thing.

-2- Do not go down the path of connecting your brothers behavior with your results. Your brother is not making you a bad bowler, a mediocre artist, etc. Always take responsibility for your outcomes. Certainly environment can influence outcomes short term, but this goes back to persistence. Long term, you are responsible for your results.

Richard's advice is helpful. In addition, I encourage you to make a list of things you are willing to try. When you feel unwilling to try, turn to that list of what you know you are willing to try! Pick one and do it.

Hi!

I really think the important first step is to believe! I wrote this text in my blog a while ago. Hope it can be useful for you. Remember: wether you think you can or you can't, you're right! So focus on believing you can do it!

"Believe!

This is the first step to become a confident person!

You need to learn through many trials that you are stronger than you think! You have everything you need now to be able to take the next challenge: you are more capable than you think.

And in this valuable practice, you will discover yourself. Even when you don’t make it, you can learn through failure and understand that you are OK with it. It is not the end of the world, it is a process that will take you to your full potential! You’ll realize that you are valuable when you try, when you fail, when you achieve! You become strong.

Believe in yourself.
Believe you can make it.
Take a deep breath and ‘see’ the strength inside you.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve waited, now it’s the right time to want more, to try more and to get it started.

I know you want more, so start today.

Don’t wait for the right time or you’ll end up waiting forever. Take ALL you’ve got – that’s the only thing you need - and get started.

Remember: the more you try, the better you get. Don’t worry, just get started and you’ll figure things out along the way. You’ll become the person you want to be and you will surprise yourself with the confidence that grows in you along the way.

BELIEVE - IT IS THE FIRST STEP TO BECOME A CONFIDENT PERSON.
&
THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE"

Hope you can feel better soon and start working on this!
