What to expect when quitting marijuana - PAWS timeline

@ Michellebrowne.24, I smoked every day, 7 days a week, staying stoned all day long for 11 months or more. I quit 6 months and 19 days ago. For at least 5 months now I have had palpitations, fast heart rate, and slow heart rate. I also went to the hospital when I first had them, they found nothing. I have been to a cardiologist who did a stress test, ekg, and wore a heart monitor for 12 days. He said the only thing he saw was I had a irregular heart beat at times. He was not concern about it. He said I didn’t even need a follow up appointment. All I can tell you is several people on here have had them. I have had them for at least 5 months now and I’m still alive. Some days I have many all day long, some days I don’t hardly notice them. They scare me and make my life miserable. I hope they are not permanent. I’ve read here where others have said they eventually go away. Wish I could offer you more. My biggest issue since I quit has been with my heart. Mainly at rest when I’m not doing anything I notice it more. If I get out and walk and stay busy with something I don’t notice them as much. My sleep is also terrible. If I do sleep pretty good which is rare, it seems the palpitations are not as bad. Sorry I can’t offer you more. I know what you’re dealing with and it is a terrible feeling. Best wishes

Thanks for getting back to me, can't believe your still going through this was hoping it wouldn't last nowhere near that long as I'm scared myself but like you said in your comment when you keep yourself busy you don't really notice them and that's the same with me, mine usually only come when I'm thinking about it before its even started or when I'm trying to get to sleep I've barely got any sleep since there not as strong as the first couple days when it first started but there still noticeable but hopefully it goes oneday very soon I hope

@ Michellebrowne.24 ; yes, I notice mine usually when I’m sitting reading, or like you said in lying in bed. Sometimes I feel like I can feel them coming on. Man do not take what I said or what anyone one else says on this forum to be the norm. Everyone one is different. What I’m experiencing now my have nothing to do with my quitting weed. To me, it’s just that so many here are having the same issues as I’m experiencing and have given time lines that I feel are relating to my symptoms. Your palpitations could be caused by a lot of things. The doctor told me many things can cause palpitations, even poor sleep. So don’t get down about my or anyone else’s post. There’s a guy I was posting to yesterday that had smoked weed for 30 years and didn’t experience any of this paws junk. He said he had a few bad “weeks” but that was it. PAWS may be or may not be my issue. It may just be a catch all phrase. But I do know my issues line up with a lot of others here who go on to recover with no symptoms remaining including the palpitations.

Anxiety is a debilitating condition and hard to manage but mindfulness can help as it keeps you in the present and stops the mind wandering off in to your thoughts, which can trigger more anxiety and worry. Focus on the now because that's what you can change, the past has gone and the future isn't here yet.
Best wishes

Well they started when I tried to go sleep lastnight only lasted about an hour though I just reality hope they go soon I think it's the cannabis that I had that day is what triggered because it hasn't stopped since so I think I'll be stuck with the heart palpitations till the cannabis is fully out my system well I hope so anyway, has yours been any better?

Hey there,
Looks here like you're doing great. Don't worry it will subside eventually till the point you won't notice it, where you will look back one day and be thinking what have gone through or done

@ Michellebrowne.24, actually the past couple of days mine were a lot better, thanks for asking. Only had a few here and there. However, laying here in bed this morning, at 5:38am, I have already had several, however, I am starting to sleep a little better though. It has been very difficult dealing with them for so long. I’m starting to worry a little less about them, after all I’m still here after 6 months and 3 weeks with them. Some days I have them all day long, some days I hardly notice them. Who knows. Like you, I hope they go away soon. It really ruins your day. It helps, reading on this forum, of others who have dealt with, and are dealing with them. I’ll probably try to walk on my treadmill when I get up. It helps me when I’m having them to get moving around. Be glad when spring gets here and I can get back outside to do my walking and sitting on my porch. Take care man and keep me updated.

@Michellebrowne.25, it’s definitely not just you. If you type “PAWS heart palpitations” in the search box on this forum it will bring up many members who have had this issue. One who had a big issue with this was a member named “Bthizzleinapickle”. If you click on his name it will bring up his post, MANY where he was dealing with heart palpitations. If I can help in any way let me know because I know what you’re going through and how worrisome and annoying this is. One thing for sure, I’m never going to smoke weed again. With the heart issues and other symptoms I’ve experienced, the hell I’ve gone through, I’ve learned a valuable lesson the hard way. Definitely not the same weed I smoked 40 years ago back in my high school and college days. Thanks

Everything just goes away slowly. But you will notice and you have to give it time. Our bodies just need time. After 2 years you feel like 80%.

It may not even be related to paws anymore. After sometime.

Just being human we have this feeling, anxiety, palpation, panic attacks. Might be caused by someshit during our day to day, like miss the bus or something, broke up with girl...

Idk... Those random racey hearts feeling, I still randomly get them , a week ones-twice .. I still get that.

[quote="FAITH"] thanks for that I'll defo have a look at that now & lol I've already said the same thing myself I ain't touching it again either, like Ive had heart palpitations for like over a year but it would only happened once or twice when I'm smoking but whatever I smoked 2weeks has really done me over I think it's just something my body just couldn't handle I needed a break from it anyway like I've been saying for awhile now but after what I've experienced has literally traumatised me completely & like you said ive learnt my lesson
