improve communication

Postby federico91 » Mon Jan 09, 2017 8:57 pm

From my earliest childhood I had communication problems, not only in public, but also to express my thoughts, my feelings, I always had difficulties, however with time it has served me, to sing in part, today I am still shy to sing In public but when I am alone I feel comfortable singing in my own way and expressing my deepest feelings, and that makes me feel more relaxed because in all communication, whether in public or directed towards a person, there are two main components, the Content of the message, and the emotional content of the message, which includes tone of voice, facial gestures and body language, is nonverbal

Without doubt, what helps me most, partly to improve the technique in communication is to read aloud being alone, whenever I'm alone at home I read aloud, and that allows me to imagine that I am reading to other people or That I am addressing other people, with time and practice it is possible to enjoy that activity, at first one is uncomfortable with effort and lack of ability, but over time, one can begin to detect the different tones of Their own voice, and recognize different emotional states within one and accept them, be comfortable with all emotional states, and tune the vocal cords

Sometimes when speaking in public we have a personal image, we can feel that it can be "tarnished" if our voice sounds shivering, that is why it is very important to train the voice, as a bodybuilder trains his body, much of the performance of a physical bodybuilder happens offstage, sometimes it is thought that to improve communication in public it does not take anything more than to speak and speak in public until losing the shame, however to develop the technical part off the stage is very important and one of those ways is reading in high voice when you have time and space,

Federico91,

Great post!
I found also found that reading a lot is a powerful tool to improve communication skills. Primarily annunciation, projection and breathing techniques will be increased.
If I could offer a few more tools to improving communication to you. I found that through my journey in public speaking as well as moving from low confidence to high confidence there were a few things that really aided me.

The first is dirsegarding the outcome!
I found that early on in my personal development journey I got caught up in the outcome of certain events. I would concern myself with what other people would think of my performance and how they would judge me. This would hold me back from being my true self when I spoke. It was only when I began to disregaurd the outcome of any endeavor and focus on the process and being present that I began to have true core confidence. This core confidence was only realized once I became completely process oriented.

Here is the second thing that made one of the biggest differences to my communication skills.
Have you ever heard of toastmasters?
Well its a international public speaking organization which anyone can join to improve their communication skills. I joined and it helped a lot. But I'm not gonna preach about them. I am gonna tell you one of the ways i was able to exceed most people in the organization in a few months.
In toastmasters they do something called table topics, essentially its impromptu speaking where they call you up to the front of the room, give you a random topic and expect you to formulate a 2 min speech on the spot. Well I liked this concept and figured that doing it once a week at the club just wasent going to cut it for me. So what did I do?

I printed off a list of 500 topics and did 3 impromptu speech every morning for the next few months. The results were better then I expected!

Practice makes a difference! For example, I do the readings at church on a regular basis. For this, I practice a lot.

Also, I do a free weekly training call and I record myself.. For this, I do an outline and then teach from that outline. I listen to myself - and improve week by week.

Yes, I agree that vocal tone matters a massive amount, and that it is important to train your voice. It's amazing how much can be communicated about your confidence level just by the tone of your voice.

The ancient orator Demosthenes was said to rehearse at the beach by shouting above the roar of the ocean waves!

Practice is the name of the game really. At my public speaking club, it's pretty impressive how much people excel in terms of voice projection and tone after a few months of practice.
