Using the Work of Authors in a Class / Lecture / Seminar

Postby PersonMan » Sat Sep 22, 2012 4:53 pm

Greetings everyone,

I'm contemplating setting up a series of seminars dealing with procrastination and productivity and I'd like to include material from various authors. If I were, for example, to do a session on David Allen's "Getting Things Done" productivity model, would I be in violation of any copyright laws.

I would of course:
Give full credit to David Allen
Suggest purchasing his book
NOT passing out replications of his printed material

Is there a formal list of guidelines for using the work of authors in a class/lecture/seminar?

Thanks,
PM

Since it's a seminar, I suggest you contact the author and perhaps give them a copy of what you're going to talk about in the seminar. Better they know you used their material. They might even give you some pointers if they like what you're doing.
