Cyber vs Human Contact

Hi,

I'd like to start by saying that I think this forum provokes some really interesting discussion and provides some potentially invaluable help to many.

My question is, has there been any research done re: the implications on the human psyche of the 'cyber society' as opposed to the old fashioned, face to face human contact way of communicating with others, sharing problems e.t.c?

We all need to belong in society, but is the www a quick fix, & should personal communication be actively encouraged as well as virtual communication?
