I need advice!

Hi! I currently am a 17 year old high school girl, and I am approximately 5'7 and 110 lbs. This is my weight after recently losing around 15-17 lbs. I am quite happy with my weight, but especially proud of my increased exercising. I can run around 8 miles and I run regularly. However, I show signs of having an eating disorder because I lied about my weight to my parents through this process and am obsessed heavily on what goes into my body. So my mom, upon finding out that I was not the weight she thought I was (which was 117), became extremely angry and wants me to gain 7 lbs (and 3 by next week). I understand why she is upset, and while I know I don't starve myself (I'm eating about 1400 calories a day), I really don't want to gain those 7 lbs. It's not like you can see my ribs, and I like my body so much now; I swear I don't think it looks too thin. Also, it was my final goal to get defined looking abs, and I feel as though I won't be able to do that while also gaining so much weight due to my mom. What should I do? What should my calorie intake be and how much should I be exercising? Is it reasonable to want to have abs, and how do I talk about that with my mom? Is it possible to get abs while also gaining so much weight?

You are underweight for your height and weight. You should be in the range of 18.5 and 24.9 BMI category.

The following article may help you:

Eating Disorders: Anorexia and Bulimia

Please discuss with your doctor or parents.

Angry? She's angry with you?

If I'd had a mother who wanted me to gain or lose weight, I probably would have lied to her too. Who needs the hassle?
I understand why she is upset,
Can you explain it to me?

I think you show a normal 17-year-old's preoccupation with body and physical fitness. I've never run half a mile, much less eight.

If you yourself think you're not eating enough (and 1400 calories a day doesn't sound like much for a growing woman) then you know what to do. If you're feeling great at the new weight, I say stay with it. It's your body, not Mom's.
