Mind and Positive Thinking

Postby turk » Wed Feb 21, 2007 5:15 pm

Stress is a natural and positive adaptation. Stress is what pushes us to get
stuff done; however in our modern lives, the stress has built up too much
and we don’t have enough releases. If we don’t get rid of this stress and
anxiety, it can lead to serious health problems. There are many techniques
out there to get rid of stress, but why not try one of the simplest options:
positive thinking.

How we think controls what we do and how we handle our lives. If a
negative thinker is in a stressful situation, they’ll spend their time worrying
about the situation, anticipating the worst, and ignoring the positives. When
a positive thinker is faced with a stressful situation, they instead focus on
how they can overcome the situation and what they can learn from it. A
negative thinker gets bogged down by anxiety while positive thinkers are
busy solving and learning from hardship. Coincidentally, people who think
positively are not only less stressed and better at coping, they’re also less
likely to get communicable and non-communicable diseases, have a greater
sense of well-being, and live longer. So cut off those destructive negative
thoughts and think positively.

You’re probably thinking “That’s nice, but how do I actually change my
thought from negative to positive?” The truth is that most of our thinking is
automatic. We ignore our subconscious mind, which can change our thoughts,
and give precedence to the conscious demands made upon us. It is the
subconscious, which stores all of the information we receive throughout the day,
which can be used in a positive way to determine the outcome of any specific
event. If we think we will have a bad day; we will. Instead of looking forward
to what the day has in store for us, we sabotage it by starting out thinking in a
negative manner. However, if you think positively throughout the day you
will act accordingly, and life will reveal itself in a positive way.

If you have an anxiety disorder, you may find there are so many negative
thoughts swirling around in your head which become impossible to get rid of.
While you make one thought positive, ten more negative thoughts pop into your
head. Such an overwhelming amount of negative thought can be difficult to
overcome. If you recognize this problem, then you’ll probably benefit from
meditation. Once you remove obsessive negative thoughts from your head,
then you can then start to replace them with positive thoughts.

Yep I can understand the theory.........

But I'm having real trouble putting it into practise! Its the 'doing' that I have a problem with oh and the planning to do. Too much thinking and not enough doing. Everything floats about in my head - its hard to connect things up to come up with a solution. Its easier to think ah I've got some sort of syndrome so cant do anything about it. I know this to be untrue, I CAN do stuff sometimes. Its just a very convenient cop out

I'm beginning to think I'm the worlds greatest procrastinator .......... anythings better than facing my responsabilities :?

hi
understand how you feel
reason why we don't do stuff is becoz we're not convinced or it does not matter enough to make a difference.
Imagine if you were the only one who could save the people with guaranteed results in a burning buring..would you act? you'd probably be super motivated, knowing you are saving lives...
we can attract what we want... but there's a price to pay..
The results are well worth it.
blessings.

Hi, I used to also felt out of focus.

But after reading more about Law of attraction reports, I applied these general guidelines which work well for me:

(1) Be guided by your feeling
Whatever action you are doing, you must check if you are feeling good
Only if you are feeling good, then continue as what you are doing is in alignment with your thoughts.

For myself, it took me some time to decide MLM is not for me
I was feeling frustrated with my upline etc
Of course, it took a bit courage to make that decision

(2) Remember the formula of Law of attraction
The formula is Thoughts plus Positive Feelings = Actions to bring your dreams into reality

Have fun with your thoughts!

It's got to do with understanding and belief.

When you understand how everything works it is very easy, but getting there in the mist of unhealthy thought patterns and anxiety is like dragging yourself in the mud.

I would like to hear a better explanation.. on how the subconscious mind works...

Positive thinking has its place but we must remember that some people are unable to implement it with out first attending to the self sabotage that can go on in the subconscious mind.

Trying to combat anxiety with CBT is quite effective, addressing the negative aspects of the persons thought process is an effective way to redress the balance and use logical thinking to overcome irrational feelings, and build up a positive attitude but there are some stumbling blocks for some.

The problem with people who try to do it on their own is their own negative thinking can ruin any attempt to make progress, it can become a self defeating behavior that leads on to even more anxiety in time. All they do is confirm to them selves that they have anxiety.

To make real progress demands commitment and some times money, but if you have a real problem with negative thinking you will always find an excuse not to commit and carry on with the anxiety, this in its self is not always a problem, people can implement adaptive behavior that will allow the person to live with the problem, such as a person who has a fear of driving will take the bus or if the anxiety is centered around lifts they will use the stairs etc, its often only when the anxiety really becomes debilitating to the persons life that they take action, and by then its much harder to adjust, why not try and get some CBT or hypnotherapy, what do you have to lose, think positive :D

I always find the easiest way to overcome negative thinking and turn it into positive thinking, is to just simply reverse it. For instance, i am a negative person; i know this. I hate everything and am very glass half empty type. But recently i find the best way is to think positively about all the negatives. For instance, if i see someone i dislilke on tv, i say to myself, i like that person and then list through his/her accomplishments. It actually makes me feel a lot better than when i was so negative. When i get up in the morning ( i live n Glasgow so it's always raining alas) i say, "wonderful day", even though my subconscious tells me it's a typical scottish dreich day. So I think positive thinking is more about tricking your mind into believing the opposite, even if you are innately negative like me. Anyway, i'm not a psychologist so i couldn't tell you how that works. But i think it's more to do with actually training yourself into believing what your subconcious registers as bad, and sort of negating it by turning it into something which is good or positive.

fyi, I haven't heard one thing that does work from a psychologist. If you go to a hospital with a broken arm, every doctor will tell you a cast or something is necessary. But when it's a mental health issue? there's very little agreement and even fewer proven methods.

Part of changing ones life is realizing where you are is a series of events, and that these events make a path to where you are. This path is based on your actions and reactions. When you act you are managing your life purposefully. When you react to life you are deferring your lifes managemment to the age of of that reaction.

Example- one client had seperation anxiety at 7 during his parents divorce. He threatened to kill himself. At 17 his gf left him. He tried to kill himself. His Reaction was age regression to 7. Everyones strong emotional response stems from the last age they had the same response. Along with that comes their maturity level.

Your path, with its actions and reactions, is responsible for where you are now and your successes as well as "failures". But its a path. Even your failures are built upon for successes later. And sometimes without a failure, you wouldn't have been lead to a success later on.

Your path is appropriate for your development. Along it you learn to temper your emotions and polish your skills. You can choose to act or react. When we stay in a reactive mode we are essentially asleep. Nothing new happens, we don't evolve, lifes opportunities pass us by.

Everyone is on their own path. And as annoying as it is, its appropriate for them. Sorry for the ramble. I hope it makes sense.

I do agree with most of what you wrote except stress is natural. Anger is natural, negative thinking can be categorised as natural because that is how someone is conditioned.
I sometimes work with music lecturers and l think they are the best example of conditioning. These guys are so chilled:irrespective of what a student does they stay cool, calm and collective. The point l am making; you can condition yourself to be stress free.

soda can ingredient's list: wrote:Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, and/or Sugar, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Artificial and Natural Flavors, Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Artificial Stress, Caffeine

proof stress is artificial! (and comes in a can, for your convenience)

seriously though, what you're saying is "stress" sucks as a motivation strategy? or maybe I'm projecting (b/c I think stress sucks as a motivation strategy).[/b]
