Seven Animals

Postby mkd22 » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:33 pm

Hi,

I was just wondering if any of you have heard of this concept before or could tell me other systems like it. Its called the seven animals and each animal plays a part to create a personality:

A brief view of each animals' Characteristics:

The owl - from the wisdom of the owl comes the knowledge of the self

The Monkey - From the energy of the monkey comes youth and joy

The Bear - From the bear comes calmness and harmony

The Bull - From the bull comes determination and commitment

The Eagle - From the eagle comes creativity

The Albatross - From the albatross comes endurance with perfection

The Fox - With the fox comes adaptability without losing the core

Students come to learn these characteristics well and with this comes the ability to recognise these atributes in themselves and the people around them.

Through studying the animals, students also discover the negative aspects of the animals and strive to find the balance that will bring a more harmonious life.

`The Animals are the doorway to the soul.'

Adaptability without losing the core

Nope - never heard these before but I understand the illustrations. Looking at them - the statements look true enough except the Eagle. I see something totally different there. What students learn this - I'm curious?

It certainly sparked my curiosity :)

Did a quick search and it came up with a animal system representing a particular version of Japanese Karate. My guess is that these animals are specific to your version of Karate and symbolises what it's all about. There are very few predatory animals in there and this to me says your version of Karate isn't that aggressive but more well balanced and leans towards self defence. If there had been a Tiger or Dragon in there then I'd say it would be considered an aggressive version of the sport. Different styles of Karate attach different animals to symbolise what it is they practice. ... I think :)

I know nothing about Karate though but it looks about right. 8)
I Learned something new there too  ( Interesting )

Hi,

Their are seven lower level animals which like a graphic equalizer make up the personality and then once incontrol you move to what is known as a 2nd tier animal which is where the predatory animals like tiger come in.

I think the guys who founded the different aspects of each fighting Style decided to look at the 7 animals which best described their combat style and personalities needed to be effective at it. I wouldn't go too deeply into the meaning myself but just get the feel of what the particular aspects of your version of Karate are and what temperment is needed to adjust to it.
