Pleasure/pain xy model

Wow. Working with this model ......... Calculus goes way back. I can rename the quadrants...which, changes the values of the axes...and manipulate this in various ways, .but eventually I come to: indeed, why stop at y?. And, all of a sudden all kinds of things start falling into place at many levels and across all kinds of lines. I am not much of a writer, or an artist, definitely not a great mathematician, but maybe a bit of each. I have a feeling the real work begins now. In my search for answers, I am more grateful for all the posts on this forum than any of the authors will ever know. My thanks to everyone who posts here.

I realized when I reread the model that I had completely skipped over the definition of the axes. I had my own idea of the values of the axes, and was trying to use that to fit the definitions of the quadrants. And that is when I found I had to add to the model in order to make it work. Something I just skipped over, a blank spot in my perception.

And then I went through a whole line of reasoning that ended with, but I am just stringing myself along. At least I am not going in circles, unless I am and I don't realize it, but I don't think so, because I am making progress. It is just a case of I have not found the basic loop. I have several loops going, and I have not yet found the common thread. Another way of looking at it is I started out with a basic loop and it worked until it didn't. Then I either revised it or added a loop that did work. And so on for years. Maybe the system I started using to add loops was flawed and that combined with major changes in life situation created some chaos.
