Hello everybody,
I'm just posting to gain a little idea about direction, and because I don't feel that there's anyone who can really help me right now (they can listen sympathetically, sure, but nobody knows the industry). I'll give you an idea of what we're dealing with here...
I have a Level 3 certificate in Counselling Skills from a few years ago, and a BSc in Psychology. Since then, I have travelled (Japan and Czech Republic) teaching English - not really related, but I'm hoping that I can use the education experience somehow. A couple of months ago I also took a distance learning course in Life Coaching, and have been trying to promote myself as a Skype-bashed life coach, only I haven't had much luck yet (a couple of clients, but nothing I can build a career on). The plan is to head back to the UK next year, but I'm not sure of what to do...
I've been thinking of becoming a Psychotherapist (and life coach, I guess), but I'm getting quite confused as to all the training available. Some seem to take six years, while other courses only take one. There are Masters courses and diplomas and foundation degrees... basically, I know there are no regulations, so what would you recommend? Does anyone have experience with a particular course that they could recommend? I don't want to rush it and feel unqualified, but I'd rather not spend years upon years training... something full-time would be best, and ideally accredited by the BACP or UKCP. Some people tell me I'm crazy for coming back to the UK at this time, as jobs are impossible to get, but I don't know...
My head is all over the place, some advice would be very much appreciated!
