Mentorship/Life Coach

Postby ECoaches » Mon Nov 03, 2014 12:41 pm

When creating a company for the first time, is it worth (in general) finding a mentor or a life coach? Does anyone have any links that they can share? Has anyone on these forums been through this experience?

Thanks for your time.

I work for myself and I have a few mentors. It sounds like your struggling with the "how to" of creating a company. The question, why do you want to start a company?

Well I've always been interested in building something for myself. I enjoy challenges and being employed for someone my whole life does not interest me at all.

To be honest I'm not concerned with the "how to" part. I do have some people that I'm working with advising me along the way. I'm simply trying to find out if it's essential to find oneself a mentor when going through something as challenging as this for this for the first time. I'm assuming it is, but I'm not sure where to find someone with similar experiences.

If you think you know the "how to", then why would it be essential? You may be overthinking the necessity of "A" mentor.

This is not why you start a company.

Sorry, I didn't know there was a correct answer to your question. What's the correct answer, i.e. what's your reason?

Thanks for your advice Richard, you had me at "I work for myself and I have a few mentors".

Sure, technically there is no one correct answer, but the reasons you gave were focused on you, not others. That is not why you start a business. You go into business to provide value to others. Your focus has to be on what you can do for others, not what you want. You stated you wanted to go into business because you want a challenge, to build something for you and you don't want a boss. How does that provide others value? It doesn't.

What skills or knowledge do you have, what service or product can you provide that others will value?
