Postby toto » Tue May 04, 2004 5:18 pm

Hi All
Last Wed. my husband jump down from the bridge hurt his knees.
Fri. standing on the roof edge of 4 levels high car park in very low mood. and Sat. sitting on the bridge thinking jumping into water again. But Doctor still not keeping him into a saft place like hospital.
I want to know, as his next of kin. Can I make application to keep his safe in hospital for treatment. His life is very dangerous..... I am very new in England and hope somebody can give me advise where I can find more information about the laws in this issue.
Thank you very much

Hi toto,

I imagine it must be a difficult situation for you, especially in a foreign country.

I think that what you are wanting to do is 'section' your husband - as it comes from Section 2 of the Mental Health Act.

An application to section a person can come from either an Approved Social Worker or the nearest relative of a person, so yes you can apply for your husband to be sectioned - however you usually need to get this agreed by two doctors.

It is probably easier to contact a social worker - from your local county council's social services. They should have a telephone number for out of office hours.

There may also be other solutions - for example your husband could see a hypnotherapist if he is willing.

Best wishes and I hope that everything is soon better for you and your husband.
