Being lied to and feeling bit used

Postby borredukguy » Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:30 pm

I signed to up use a personal trainer she is good but she has been late a few times which I have given her the benefit of the doubt in the past.

But today she didn't turn up to a pre-arrange personal work out session.
It's unlikey she forget as she only phoned me yesterday to say she had lost her diary and i re-confirmed the times and date.

I phoned her after I worked out on my own, she eventually answered saying she had been into work but had to go home sick and she hadn't phoned her clients to let them know which i thought was a bit odd it would have taken minutes to let me know.

Latter she sends me a text saying she has been ill all day which contradicts what she said early, also on her twitter account it says she was in my local town so i amost know she is lying.

It makes me angry that she is lying to me and that she thinks im stupud, if i was late or didnt turn up i would loose the session!!

She appologised afterwards but she didnt have the respect to tell me before hand she wouldent be there.

Im almost sure it will happen again shes young and well a bit dizzy.
I want to tell her off but im scared it might effect are professional realationsip.

Any help? sorry its a bit deep

P,S She has a public tiwtter account i cant stop reading it :( she put on there im going to be rich from being a personal trainner yeah with my money!

Hey I think it's cool if you just go to the gym and ask for a different trainer. Just say that yeah I'm hoping to get some sessions with a personal trainer and the one I've signed up for isn't available as often as I'd like. Or whatever the process is of getting a new trainer, just get a new one, because the point is basically to get one that works for you and your schedule.

So in that way you basically just move on.

Read Paul Ekman's, and Sissela Bok's, books on lying. Better yet, suggest them to her. Tell her you "just had a feeling" they'd help her.

Hi, I work in a similar industry to your trainer and have in the passed employed 14 other instructors. If I discovered that any of them were pulling this sort of stunt, they would be in deep trouble. It is difficult for you the client to say to 'The Professional' 'I'm not happy with how you conduct yourself because it is a personal one to one relationship. But as I always told my company's clients, if you are unhappy with your instructor simply take a break of a few days/weeks. Tell them you will be in touch when you are ready to resume training with them. You are never ready to resume training with them (because of the liing) so at that point get yourself another trainer. You have been honest, and you avoid the awkard situation of saying why you are unhappy with them.

It sounds to me like this is an indication of a person you should avoid doing business with in favor of someone else who is better prepared to cater to your needs.

Understand that people often times get busy and do not always meet the same business habits that you may be looking for.

I remember you from your other thread about having a crush on this woman.

How is that going?

Peace.

don't worry. just relax. it'll be all fine. maybe she was sick. you never know. it's good to trust people and not think too much. even if she wasn't, maybe she had something else to do. so don't worry so much. it's all fine. go for the next session and be happy.

I am just curious why you took so much effort to figure out she is lying? I understand your upset but it seems a little extreme to me. So now you know ..or "almost know" she is lying, What are you going to do? My suggestion is simply find a new personal trainer.

It is entirely possible that this woman you describe as a bit dizzy did, indeed, forget the appointment. You said she previously mentioned she lost her datebook, perhaps she had several things to do that day and forgot one, likely others, since she said she forgot to cancel with some other clients. Perhaps she senses, as I do, that you have some interest in her beyond professionally. Or, perhaps she is irresponsible and/or unprofessional. Stop reading her twitters. Change trainers if you can.

I see a couple different ways of going about this.

1. Let her know how this made you feel. Tell her you don't feel like she was being very professional and if you have to, you will fire her and get a new trainer.

or

2. Just go ahead and get a new trainer.

There's no need for you to have to remind her to do her job, if she can't do it, somebody else will.

Good luck.
