Personally I think it's strongly has to do with brain chemistry which is like a roller coaster throughout time and even daily. When you think about your goals and remember them write them down and revisit them during hard times like what you say you are experiencing

It happens all the time. The reason behind this could be an underlying regret or medical conditon llike anxiety or depression over little failures and ocd to overthink as in my case.
