Hypnotherapy and Islam

Postby Helen Joy » Sun Nov 06, 2016 5:27 pm

Are there any good resources you know of on Hypnotherapy and Islam? What is the consensus on this topic?
I'm a Hypnotherapist in the UK and it's really interesting to discuss my work with people who either seem to fall into two opinions: 1 great, it's a talking therapy that can really help people OR
2 You are messing with Jinn, with Shatan and it isn't permitted.
It's something that if I am honest I never really considered until now. I'd really welcome some knowledge and opinions.

Hi Helen,

I have been wondering the same thing.
I am from the UK, but am currently living in a Muslim country (although saying which one online is not advised).
Even here, I get a very mixed response as to how acceptable hypnosis is under Islamic law.

There is a strong belief here in what they call 'demonic possession', and I feel that the visible effects of hypnosis could well be classified as such. Whether these 'possessions' are part of the Islamic system of belief, or whether they come as part of the local culture (the two are very much interwoven), I have no idea, so can't say whether or not it would extend to other parts of the world.

My solution has been just not to do hypnosis here.

I'm not willing to risk it. It's really nice, and I want to stay.

I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I hope it helps a little.

Mousetower, thank yo so much for taking time to reply! It's really difficult as I have worked so hard to start this career, I love it, there's so many jobs that I can't do being Disabled. I love my (new) faith too, it''s really important to me. It's bad enough being rejected by people over here because I now wear Hijab etc, without the "Haram Police" saying that this way of helping people may be unnaccpetable in the faith. I know there is nothing wrong with what I'm doing, taking a smoker who is killing themselves on 20 a day and freeing them from that risk........ I'm not dealing with Shatan! I'd love to chat with you a little more!
