Hypnotist

Postby gemchicken » Fri Jun 11, 2004 12:43 am

Hi,

I'm new here and I know it sounds daft, but ti's reassuring to read comments becasue I know I'm not the only one who suffers from panic attacks. I've had them just over a year, and just recently with exams I've been bad. I was recommended a hypnotist but I am a bit worried about this, I mean what happens if I'm too anxious to be hypnotised?!? Has anyone been to a hypnotist and have they helped? How many times would I need to go on average or is that impossible to say?

Thank you and hope everyone is feeling ok!

Hi Gem

Welcome to the forum! Your concerns about going to a hypnotist are very common, but if you see a good one, he/she will be able to deal with any concerns you have. Remember that it is not the hypnosis that does the trick, but the psyhological knowledge of the practitioner, applied through hypnosis. If you have a recommendation from a friend all the better, but there is no need to suffer from panic attacks like you are doing. Why not give it a try?

Hi Gem ,

Have you tried The human Givens Brief Therapy ? As this helped me . Also have you read any of Dr Claire Weekes Books ? There is Hope and Help for your Nerves, and Pass Through Panic: Freeing Yourself from Anxiety and fear . I found with reading Claire weekes books that with the understanding that Claire Weekes gave . I understood what I was going through . This helped me a great deal .Also I have found that self help , like the CD I have , this is a Guided Meditation for Relaxation , Well Being and Healing , this combines the very latest hypnotherapy techniques with state of the art digital sound and features . This is a must . Also Yoga is very good . Just a few things for you to try . hope this helps.

Hi!

Thank you for replying to me Roger and Cats, I haven't heard of the Human Givens Breif Therapy but I will look into it. I'm also thinking of getting some relaxation tapes but am not sure whether to get one where someone is talking to you, or like whale noises? I don't know which would be best.

Also, when you have panic attacks, do you sometimes feel as though you just can't think or that you're not really there? Last time I had one I don't even know how long it lasted and I can't remember anything about it, I have to rely on other people, and this scares me as I worry what would happen if I had one when I was on my own, I wouldnt know what to do. I seem to get through them when I'm with somebody, and they can talk and calm me down, but its not fair relying on other people, I want to try and get through them on my own! I don't know if that makes any sense, or if I sound like I'm going mad, I need some reassurance!

Thanks again
Gem

Hi Gem ,

I would say that self - management of your own panic / anxiety is a must . Did you say that you read some of Dr Cllaire Weekes books . Did her books help you to understand your panic / anxiety ? Try meditation as this helps & Guided imagery , this has been used throughout time. Both are very powerful tools for stress management & coping , the power of the mind is to assist the body to heal , mantain health. There is a great deal of self help books & CD etc . Its try & error . Only you can do this , as no one else can do this for you .

Hope this helps you
