Can you help me please?

Hello people, my name is pete and i have a few issues that i'd like to have a little chat about. My main concern is my girlfriend who has been suffering from depression for a long time now and seems to be going in circles. she has some kind of bi polar disorder indicated by hideous mood swings, constant exhaustion and a fear of new experiences. She has tried many different types of therapy including counselling, relaxation techniques and many different types of pills. She always says that the one thing she thinks would "fix" her is seeing some kind of professional who could guide her through what to do and how she should approach different situations, the counsellors she has been seeing are to be honest making her worse because she does not want to keep going over her experiences again and again with seemingly no answers. I would like to know if said professionals do exist and if so how do i or she get in contact? I am no stranger to depression having suffered from some kind of break down about this time last year after a long spell of drug abuse, my life seems back on track now but I am desperate to help this girl, any comments would be warmly received thankyou for your time Pete

Hi peteie

You could try this Register. These people have all been trained in solution focused approaches.

Has you girlfriend looked at the Depression Learning Path? It could help you both!

By the sounds of it, the councelling she's been receiving has been too focused on what has triggered (or caused) the depression. Maybe a different style of counselling is required. One that helps you get out of the hole and helps you stop from slipping back in again.

How many different councellors has she tried and for how long? Sometimes a fair few sessions are needed to make progress. It could be that each new councellor has to go over the "old ground" before they can get to the good stuff? Maybe it just needs a bit of patience to stick with it?

(I'm one to talk!)
