Extreme Anxiety to seek help

Postby Antigreen » Mon Jun 28, 2004 8:48 am

I am 14 years old, and I have PTSD...
Lately, its been getting worse and worse, and I know that I desperatly need to see a counselor/psychologist for this...

I however have an extreme anxiety of seeking help, or talking about the events...

How does one overcome such an anxiety?

And please dont say by facing it...
If the only way is by facing it, im screwed.

Hello Antigreen

Wellcome to the forum. Symptoms of PTSD include nightmares, flashbacks (very strong memories of the trauma-sparked off by anything that reminds, even slightly, of the original time) and exhaustion.

There is such a thing as the 'rewind technique' which is fast, comfortable and doesn't require talking about the event or directly 'facing the fear'. I have treated many traumatised individuals in this way to very good effect. If you like you can private message me and let me know where abouts you live then I can see if there is a good therapist near you able to use this technique.

Best wishes

Mark.

-_-

But you see, I allso have an extreme fear of people around me thinking anything is wrong... In order to see a therapist my aunt(my parents are dead, and so are my grand parents, so I live with my aunt) has to know about it... and that would obviously make her think that something is wrong.

Hi Antigreen

The technique that Mark describes is truley effective for PTSD, and it may only take one session of maybe a couple of hours or less to de-traumatise that uncomfortable time.

So you can smile in the knowledge that you are the only one that needs to know.

Please let us know how you get on.

PTSD can be so upsetting to say the least for the sufferer. But with the right therapist the results are amazing.

Well, as a training therapist the thing i enjoy the most is hearing or seeing the difference in someone after therapy.
When someone has been able to defeat whatever they perceive as the problem it can be a life changing experience, not only for the client.
I know that this is a personal thing to me, and maybe a little selfish, but hearing about someones good results gives me, and a few other people on this forum a real buzz.

Although this topic isn't being discussed anymore, I'd just like to say I decided to go see a therapist...

I'm going to ask my aunt for one close to the end of the summer, I'll just bring up the fact that Ive been doing horribly in school ever since my mom died, and that I use to do extremely well in school before she died, as the reason to see the therapist.

Hi Antigreen,

Great to hear from you.

I'm pleased to hear that you've taken such a bold decision, the first step on your path to a better life.

I'm sure your aunt will be very understanding.

Keep in touch.

Actually, instead of waiting till the end of the summer, I'm going to ask my aunt for a therapist as soon as she gets back from her business trip to fort Bragg.(She is a CMD for a military housing company)

Actually, I'm possibly never going to ask my aunt for the therapist.

Neutral, not sad, not happy.
My aunt is up right now, and I would like to ask her, but I can't.

Can you talk to her about something else? Like how was her trip?
