Hello there,

2 years ago i was in general studies (a subject i hate - in college) and i was asleep whilst everyone was doing this test, so it was quiet. I was dreaming in 3rd person. Watching students come into the room quietly and there were all getting ready to surprise me, because they could see i was asleep. At that moment my concious awakened. I instantly though, "no, I'm awake lets sit up so they don't have chance to scare me." I opened my eyes and was lying on the desk facing my friend to the right, but i couldn't move - I was paralysed. Aware that i had just been dreaming, i at first found it quite funny, because i didn't know what the F*** was going on. I wasn't scared, just intrigued. Then after a while (10 or so seconds) of being like this, i got a little scared and wanted out. I did a quick self diagnostics to see what i was in control of. I noticed my breathing and my eyes, but not my eyelids. I then though that i need some sort of physical stimulation to "awaken" my body, so i tried to get one of my friend's attention, so they might talk or touch me. All i could do was breath heavily, and i was manicly shaking my eye's trying to get someone's attention. (its quite funny). i later found that they did notice my breathing, but ignored me. thanks guys lol. Anyway, the teach coughed, then i was alive. But my mind was asking so many questions and i couldn't talk because it was a test.

I went straight on the internet and learned of Sleep Paralysis. This led me to Astral projection. The feeling when i was watching my body in 3rd person, i believe was astral projection for a very short amount of time.

I tried since then the astral, I began meditating alot to try and explore this new idea. The first instance where something happened, i was at my dad's house in bed, and I began to hear something very strange in my head, almost like thunder. I could see things moving very fast in front of my (eyes are closed) and then I tried to sit up as a simple test. It worked, i sat up and could see myself behind me (i later realised that it wasn't myself i could see, but my eyes were a little open and could see my arm, which my astral self interpreted this as seeing part of myself lying down behind me.) At this point my brain was analysing everything and asking so many questions, and so it faded and i was lying in bed again.

some other small interesting things have happened aswell, but i will mention the biggest one, that was the greatest success.

I was sleeping in bed at my girlfriends house (she had gone out) and i remember i was lying on my front, this was in the morning after i had woken up a little/going back to sleep/lying in being lazy. I remember hearing something strange again, i cant remember what but it was scary. For some reason i knew they was a giant easter island head behind me, (i know. lolololol.) and it was floating, looking at me. I knew what was happening and ignored it because i knew it would knock me out of it. So anyway, i sat up slowly, and thought "test 1, i want to fly" so i looked to the window, and knowing it was closed tried to go through it anyway. as soon as i started to pass through i though "i hope i don't get stuck." and sure enough i was locked in the window half way. I actually laughed at this point, and managed to get the rest of the way through - that was it, i was outside.
i easily flew around and i must say, the feeling i got was one of the best ever. I felt so free, more free than just being able to fly, because i knew what i was doing was all inside my head - my own world to be what i want it to. i could fly anywhere i wanted at any time, i just wish it would happen more.
I flew around for a few minutes and then as my logical mind kicked in, so did gravity. and i landed on a shed - then allowed myself to awaken.
again, the feeling of all this was immeasurable.

The second time i remember flying (and last time, so far) i was sleeping at my dad's house, dreaming that i was at my mums and i had just got a beer out of the fridge. At which point my conscience mind awakened and i though "wtf am i doing here, i went to sleep at dad's so how am i..... ohhhh." So i put the beer down, walked into the living room, stepped onto the sofa and went straight out of the window. Once again - it was magic.

After much more research on astral projection and lucid dreaming, understanding different states of mind ect, I came to understand more about the subliminal mind and how it effects things. this led me to hypnosis, which led me quickly to NLP (neuro linguistic programming)

I lack friends with the same interests. to them i just sound insane (obviously) so i wont mention a word more to them, yet i need a community to join so i can share and learn. I've read a few books and things, i very much want to learn about rapid inductions, i enjoy the more face-to-face, communication side of things rather than stage stuff. I admit, i want to unlock potential to use these skills for my benefit (like ant with the free drinks Razz) In life i think if i master these skills i can get far.

Learning to make someone sleep straight away is just a good way of letting me know that i am successfully bypassing the critical sensor, and so i can learn when exactly people are extremely suggestible.

i have been trying to mind read a bit lately (derren brown style), i keep asking my friends to get a number between 1 and 10 and i try to guess/work it out. I've been unsuccessful most of the time, but in the beginning it worked quite well.
last night when i went out drinking there was a bouncer to this club and he said you have to pay to get in, so as always i tried my luck (i was so drunk btw) I said to him we have met before, last night - don't you remember me? I'm ... and he said no i don't. And i said to him (and i don't know why or how i did this) Your Chris right? and he said no and then i said.... It's Carl. He looked shocked and said how do you know that. I was shocked myself aswell, so i just said "i told you, we've met before." then i walked away with my friends.

Chris is the name of one of my mates and i knowingly guess that name, but i cant think for the life of me why i tried to guess Carl. Its not even a name i would normally think of, its a rare name as far as im concerned. So i don't know, it just came to me and i said it.

anyway that's an intro about me, I've just joined the forum after reading it most of the morning. I know this isn't all hypnosis stuff, but it fits somewhat. from what i have gathered, hypnosis has such a broad range, from making people fall to sleep to simply making them "look inwards." they are all just different stages of hypnosis. these are things i have noticed from reading so much, correct me if you think im wrong.

Questions
i know this is a bad thing to ask, but im looking for someone who i can talk to like, on MSN or something who has had similar experiences to me. someone with an interest in astral projection, NLP and hypnosis, someone who wants to better their skills. (im not looking for a girlfriend lol.)

i know im not supposed to put person information down here, but i want to say one thing. i live in Manchester, and would like to know if anyone else does.

Thanks for reading

Very interesting.

I don't live anywhere near Manchester, but I am totally interested in astral projection and how it relates to hypnosis.

I have had experiences of my own with it, maybe not exactly like yours, but similar feelings of sleep paralysis and projection.

Glad to know that others have experienced similar things.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you doing to work towards astral travel?

I keep a notebook of experiments to be able to look back and see what has been working and what has not.

Why not start an 'travelling' thread, rather than continuing this in the intro section?

Don't be sorry, you have a Thread Subject that has generated quite some interest

This kind of thing happens on message boards / forums all the time, threads get 'hijacked' & lose the original topic, but you want people to find your posts on Dream Walking & astral Projection so their own thread is essential for forum searchs

Ant is just helping you to get the subject more attention in case people don't peruse the Introduce Yourself Thread

I'm a hardcore skeptic looking for evidence, and I REALLY want to find some!
I don't think I'm going to find any real evidence let alone ever get to experience hypnosis for myself, but some of the discussions here are quite interesting to read.

Thanks for introducing yourself.

You are looking for evidence of what? Hypnosis itself?

Is there any evidence that would satisfy you beyond your personal experience?

Hi again Anthony.
A personal experience of hypnosis would certainly be proof enough for me and I am puzzled as to why, if I am a good subject, I should not be able to experience it at all - if hypnosis is real that is.

I fit all the criteria for a good subject, I'm left handed, creative, in touch with my emotions (I hope) and easily absorbed by a good movie or book (I'm a huge fan of romantic animé). What I WON'T do is say that I am experiencing an hypnotic trance when I'm not really feeling anything; I think that may be what a lot of people do, they'll humor the hypnotist because they don't want to hurt his feelings by saying "no it doesn't work" and making him look a failure.

I read an article about color perception in hypnosis while subjects were having their brains scanned and the experiment showed a positive effect, but the test is not peer-reviewed and can not be shown as actual proof because there may be other causes of changes in color perception. It's intriguing, but I need more. Surely after all these year - decades even - of public interest in hypnosis there should be more to go on?

Then go on a good hypnosis course.

Seriously though - there is no such feeling of hypnosis. So unless you meet a hypnotist who is willing to demonstrate hypnotic phenomena with you then by searching/waiting to feel something you are kind of looking in the wrong place.

Sounds like waffle I know.

I think I can agree with you on that point Ant, it does sound like a good idea to go find a hypnotist who is willing to give me a demonstration.

But I can't help wondering, will he or she say "ahh, but you need several more sessions before you can see results" if the first session yields no result?
I can be so mellow and relaxed that people are sometimes a little unnerved by it (which ironically tends to make me feel and look tense!) so I'm quite sure I would settle into a session very quickly, the question is will the hypnotist keep insisting that I'm doing something wrong when I know I'm not resisting?

Oh well, one way to find out I guess.

No they should be able to show you if you are capable of hypnosis in the first session. Yes it may get easier in subsequent sessions but if they didn;t hypnotise you in the first one there is no good reason why they will be able to in a second.
