Intrusive thought urges

Postby why? » Fri Aug 03, 2018 8:40 pm

Hello,

I am having a "session" of urges right now, to act out my intrusive thoughts. It's really bothering me, and sometimes take the pleasure out of living a day-to-day life.

I won't get into too much details, because some of the related info is personal.

Anyway, I've read from many places to "Accept" the urge and try not to fight it. I've ran countless scenarios in my head of my acting out my urge, and each time I do it I feel instantly worse. I've had these sessions before, and I guess it's an obsession. I also have some symptoms of OCD, such as obsessing over certain events, thoughts, and an urge to make things equal or perfect.

So, I guess, is there a way for me to let go of my thoughts and keep it at bay?

why,

IMO it is good to remember that the thoughts are not us. They are happening to us, but we are not the thoughts. So, I would say, don't get drawn in to the thoughts/urges whatever they are. Let them pass.

There is a lot of material about mindfulness these days, and it can be of help. I hope this eases for you.

Consciously occupying your mind with thoughts that are good, positive and wholesome will help.

Make it a habit. Look up the concept of 'priming'
