What does recovery mean to people with a history of anorexia nervosa?

This research is being completed as part of my MSc in Clinical Psychology, which is based around the topic of anorexia nervosa and recovery. This research is being conducted as there is a limited amount of research which identifies what recovery means to people with a history of anorexia nervosa - as recovery is often different for individuals. The aim of this research is to identify what is universally important to promote and maintain recovery. From the data collected, I hope to influence a change in policies and therapy to provide the well needed support for individuals living with AN, in recovery from AN and to assist in increasing recovery rates across the UK.

To take part in the research you must fit the following criteria (1) be 18 years old or older, (2) have a previous diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, (3) live in the UK and (4) have had no difficulties in the past year. If you are interested in taking part, the research is in two halves. The first half is a pre-interview questionnaire which can be completed in your own time, but before the interview. This is to gain further information about your previous diagnosis and the services you accessed. The second part is the interview, which can take place via skype, telephone calls or face to face at Staffordshire University. This interview is all about your journey of recovery and what assisted/hindered this.

If you have any further questions regarding the research, or would like to take part please contact me via email: [email protected]

Many thanks,
Sophie Cole
