Basic Needs

Maslows hierarchy seems to be similar to the 7 Basic Human Needs. It splits our needs into the importance of physiological, safety, love, esteem and self-actualization respectively.

Also in 'The Encyclopedia Of Natural Healing' they made the split a different way:

Causes of Imbalance

1. Biochemical: How cells, organs and body systems, such as respiration and the lymphatic system, work to keep the body's processes balanced.

2. Structural: How structural elements, such as muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels, support body systems such as circulation and digestion.

3. Psychological: How thoughts, feelings, actions or relationships can help or hinder the body's ability to cope with life.

I personally think that each of these methods puts the emphasis on different things. The last one just expands upon the mind/body connection so that it takes up 2/3 and the other 6 basic human needs are compressed into 1/3. It all depends on how you choose the categories.

I think that’s a fair point. You can categorise needs in all sort of ways – different categorisations are just a different ways of looking at what is basically the same thing but from different perspectives. Some categorisations are more detailed or have a different emphasis than others but they are all still potentially valid.
