5htp & other supplements - your opinions/experiences?

Hi Everyone,

REcently weaned myself off of Wellbutrin and Serzone after 8 yrs of being on antidepressants. Actually, I'm currently in quite the withdrawal mode with a number of horrific side effects that I can't WAIT to pass (however I am so excited to get these toxins out of my body). That being said, I am thinking of supplements, nutrition, and homeopathic support aids and am curious what other people are taking and what their success rate has been. Specifically, on the topic of 5 HTP for mood and melatonin as a sleep aid.

P.S. This discussion board has been a Godsend in helping me wean off anti-depressants.

Thanks.

tasha,
I've been researching vitamin and mineral supplements as well as amino acid supplements. Unfortunately, I don't have any direct experience to share with you.

Two books you might want to look at are "The Wisdom of Depression" by Johnathan Zuess, and Potatoes not Prozac by DesMaisons. The author of Wisdom is a medical doctor and takes a very balanced approach. Not "rah, rah, anything 'natural' is good". Instead he points out whether he considers studies of the effects and side effects to be "quality" studies.

Good luck, tasha! :)

Thanks! Anyone else have any thoughts/experiences with supplements for depression or panic attacks/anxiety?
