Hi there

It's really up to you whether you take medication or not, but if you are really against the idea, why don't you consider seeing a well-trained therapist who can relax you quickly, decondition the original panic attack and give you some skills to use to lower your anxiety levels?

Does your handle mean you are based in Brighton, UK? If so, there are many on this board, including ourselves Uncommon Knowledge who are based there and could help you quickly.

im on the nhs waiting list to see a counsellor...(would this be any good?)...plus as i am not working, and as yet not receiving any benifits..(wating for incapacity to go through) i have NO money for any sort of therapy...im just thinking if i take these pills in 4 weeks time will i have the confidence to go for an interview??/...or stay at work without getting the claustrophobic feeling of "i want to get out"??
im not depressed, ive had about 3 "proper" panic attacks...but the ongoing feeling after my last panic attack is worse than the attack itself...not sure what to do relly, GP dosent really have a clue because every time i see him i cry because im frustrated with the way i feel and want to be normal again.

Sounds like you would really benefit from seeing one of our students, many of them are working in the Brighton area and are seeing clients free of charge. We constantly hear of the good results that they achieve.

I have put a post in their section of this forum telling them about your post, so hopefully you will hear from one of them soon.

As for the drug, it can help with some of your symptoms but there is no guarantee, getting rid of the pattern that holds the worry about work in place will make you feel more comfortable, and stop the panic attacks, the students should be able to this.

That's a great idea Jill. And your counsellor will be able to help as long as they can teach you new skills for managing anxiety and can detraumatise previous attacks. The worst thing would be a counsellor who was insight-oriented - that is exploring why you think you had the attack in the first place and doing nothing else. This approach tends to worsen anxiety and does not deal with the real issue- the fact that you are having panic attacks and don't know how to stop them.

Hiya hun, Im in exactly the same position as you, my doctor has prescribed me the same drug. Iv had them for a month now and not took any. Iv decided today that Im going to try them, Iv got nothing to lose. Its entirely up to you if you take them or not tho. If you dont feel right taking them then go back to your doctor and tell them. they will be able to reassure you and if need be put you on something else that you feel comfortable with.
Hope I have been some help to you.
If you ever need any1 to talk to im always here
