newbee to learning path

Postby damon » Wed Jun 02, 2004 5:44 pm

hello forum

I came across the learning path a few days ago after a particularly bad day following a bad night when i started to consider methods of suicide or running away to start a new life.

Luckily I was talked back by my loving family and as the support around me returns me to a state of partial normality I have been scouring the internet for some imformation to stop my cycles of pain and depression and to stop destroying the relationships with the people who love me.

i have been to the doctor and returned onto 20mg citalopram and have been prescibed zopiclone 7.5 mg to help me sleep.

The lambeth mental health team are organising an assesment of me over the next few days.

I am particularly unable to deal with uncertainty making me emotionally aroused giving rise to assumptive, jealous irrational behaviour. My wife is beginning to understand this behaviour and my family are working their way through the learning path.

I have read the learning path and was pleased to find a coherent practical and jargon free system that is well researched and balanced. So what next.

I have been trying to find a professional therapist in London that can take me through the behaviouural, cognitive and interpersonal stages as reccomended in your what to look for in a therapst section.

Is there anyone out there reading this who may help me find such a person.

I am aware of the clinic in Brighton and am considering the weekly journey down unless I can find one in London. i live in camberwell, s.london

with thanks and love

Hi damon,

Welcome to the Forum.

I'm pleased that you've found the learning path helpful, and you're now taking steps to improve the quality of your life.

It's wonderful to have a loving family who are there for you at difficult times.

Being comfortable with uncertainty is important, there are so many things in our life that we can't be certain about, so being able to deal with uncertainty becomes vital.

The key to beginning to feel comfortable with uncertainty is to realise that you can trust your unconscious mind - we do this all the time, we trust our unconscious mind to regulate our breathing, even when we sleep, to blink when we need to, and correctly digest our food.

Dealing with uncertainty is a prime element of feeling more confident, and you may find it worthwhile to have a look at the Confidence Buiding website

What areas of your life are you already better at coping with uncertainty in?

If you're looking for a therapist you might try Kathleen Fedouloff, one of the moderators on this forum, her website is at http://www.meaningmatters.co.uk/, or one of the therapists on the register at Human Givens Institute.

Best wishes and let us know how you progress.
