Hello Shane:

A good source is "Primal Leadership" by Goleman, McKee and Boyatzis.

They suggest 6 leadership styles, 4 of which are resonant styles, those that inspire others. The styles are Visionary, Coaching, Affiliative and Democratic.
They also identify 2 other styles, Pacesetting and Commanding. The authors warn that these latter styles can cause dissonance.

My own take is that emotional intelligence helps you to be sufficiently self aware to use the right style in the right situation. It obviously also requires a high of self management.

I hope this helps.

Emotional Intelligence is directly related to Effective leadership. An Effective leader is a person who has control over his own emotions and that of his team members as well. An effective leader needs to be able to motivate his colleagues and be emthatic with them. He needs to sense their feelings and express his own in a way that will eventually produce effective teamwork.

A leader needs to communicate clearly, listen effectively. discipline, motivate, create synergy, and produce quality work with his team. If he/she has high EQ, then he/she will be a good leader.

I can control myself, I know it really..If I say myself that I will not send my congratulations to the relatives then I will not do it till they phone me and ask if I'm not ill..Then I say that I've lost their number and they present me new notebook with their signatures and stay at my place for 2 weeks and as a result I may breathe with relief knowing that my wife will let me live calmly for this period as her attention will be directed to them only...Yeah..I may control myself, though sometimes it is so hard not to bike my wife for her permanent claims to me!
