Anxiety after quitting weed

Postby Jaybeas13 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 9:48 am

Hi all,

I’m currently on week 4 of being weed free. Week one was horrible, I wasn’t aware of what my body and mind was going through, I stressed every little thing that was happening to my body. Half way through week 2 I started to do some research, and found that weed withdrawal is in fact, very real! Luckily I haven’t really experience too much depression, which from my understanding is part of weed withdrawal. I am now at the stage where my anxiety is becoming more mild, less physical symptoms and less panic attacks, although I’m still having trouble with the overthinking side of anxiety, and my mind keeps finding things to question and stress. I kind of have this trapped in my mind sort of feeling. However more recently it’s been easier to distract my self. I tend to overthink and scare my self into thinking that something more serious is wrong with me (mentally). Because I’ve never had a problem with anxiety I’m continually questioning everything. I have some unusual thoughts but nothing that anyone else hasn’t ever thought of, but when I can’t focus on anything other than that thought it bothers me. I’m just looking for someone to share a similar experience they had after quitting weed. I just wanna know that I’m going to get better, and feel more like my normal self again. Should I be concerned? Or do i just need to tuff it out until my mind is back in sync?

Thanks

It's all part of the process. I've done multiple quits in the past and I've discovered that it gets better with time and you go back to your normal self as time goes on. It all varies from person to person, so what you go through may not necessarily be the same experience the next person will go through, however, the symptoms are somewhat similar.

My advice would be to try and distract your mind with productive activities, for instance, gym.. Exercising can help clear your mind off negative thoughts and overthinking. Another thing you can do is spend time with loved ones and develop new hobbies, perhaps something you love doing, something you're comfortable with. Anxiety comes and goes as your journey to recovery is progressing, all that you need to do is stay positive.

@K’Dad thanks boss, I am only 21, so the thought of feeling like this forever is stressing me out even more than I already am. I am very active as I play basketball at a high level, which is why I quit weed, to focus so that I can play professionally soon. I will definitely take your advice by keeping busy with extra workouts, and weight training.

Don't worry man, it'll all go away soon. You're going to be just fine, just keep busy and stay away from weed. Your body and state of mind will go back to normal as long as you don't poison it will harmful substances.

Good luck with everything man, and please keep updating your progress.

Hi Jaybeas

I'm really glad to read this post as I am currently experienced similar side effects after long term heavy use of cannabis for 5+ years. I am now 4.5 weeks into the detox and my anxiety has been through the roof. I struggle to leave the house on a daily basis, have panic attacks in places like shops / work, anywhere really that contains other people. Of course I don't mean I'm happy to hear your going through something similar but it seems it is something that increases as your body is adjusting to the lack of THC in the system. I personally really hope my anxiety starts to fade as it's become such a strain on my life. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you get healthy as soon as possible. Stay strong my friend and keep well.
