I'm sick of fighting myself

Postby some1 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 1:10 am

As a young teen I was fully able to look after my eating habits and figure.
After coming out of a very unhealthy relationship at the age of 17, I've had trouble with my weight and binge eating ever since.

Sometimes I manage to get on top of things and get myself down to a happy, healthy weight, but I can never maintain it. I've got the word 'inconsistent' lodged deep into my brain.

I will be 21 in 2 months and I need to be together and well presented for this event which I know I can do but I know as soon as it's over I'll go back to my terrible binging ways.
And now, each time I put the weight back on, I feel worse and worse about myself to the point where I don't even know why I bother anymore so why try? And it's showing as I'm currently at the heaviest I've ever been.
I need a lifestyle change but I'm afraid of failure before I've even started.
I need help.

Have a read of the following article that will explain why some people fall victim to an eating disorder and others do not.

Hi Some1
You are trying to prevent a tree from growing by butting the branches instead of cutting the root

Instead of trying to control your eating habits control the emotions that result in these eating habits

do you eat when you feel bad? sad? afraid? or anxious?
if so then dealing with such emotions is the right step you should take

Farouk said it well. There's something underlying and driving your binges. It could be physiological. A lot of people blame themselves for their poor eating habits. Meanwhile, they're physically wired to do it. There's a "switch" in your brain that tells you when to stop eating. If that "switch" is faulty, well, you end up with poor eating habits. Hormone imbance can aslo be the culprit.

I think it's probably likely you're comfort eating. That is, eating as a way to assauge overwhelming emotions or beliefs. One way to check: How do you feel before you binge and what are you thinking? How do you feel during? And how do you feel afterward? It would be a good place to start if you can answer these questions honestly.

You should not eat such things which can be harmful for you, i know it is quite hard for everyone to maintain a cool head when he/she gone through any bad relationship, but what we can do, we should concentrate more on future and should not look back.
