Is this a real brainwashing technique?

Hello,

I need to ask you something general about psychotherapy which got me worried. I remember seeing in GOTHAM the series in season 3 the following. Bruce Wayne kid is taken to be trained by the league of assassins. He is put by the shaman through some sort of guided hypnosis to forget the past(the murder of his parents) and all the pain it caused and lock it in a vault.

My questions is if you do that in real life will that cause a person to feel demotivated a lack of ambition and actually begin to surrender his mind and become more a zombie than a person?

In hypnosis, the hypnotizer plays with one's subconscious mind and put the situations in his brain which he wanted him to feel. There are legal practices for it also. If he wants you to feel demotivated then yes he can do that with you under hypnosis. But as it all happens over the subconscious mind, I am not sure one can completely brainwash to someone.
