Which degree should I obtained?

Postby myerrh » Thu Feb 16, 2012 2:05 am

I am currently a 20 year-old, undergraduate Psychology student interested in becoming a therapist/counselor, but I'm not sure which route to go. These are the fields I'm considering:
a) Counseling adolescents with depression/self-esteem issues
(with this track, I would want to do group therapy and one-on-one)
b) Counseling addicts/alcoholics
c) Being a general counselor for people with depression issues, etc
My question: what is the best route for me to go? I already know I'm going to have to get my Master's, and I'm prepared for that. Should I get my PsyD, MSW, or some other degree?
Also, I would like to make some money to be able to live off.

Hi,

That's a tough question to answer as this is your life.

I think some personal awareness and reflection will help you.

Also as you go through your studies, it will become more apparent to you working with the different theories as to which one you prefer.
