I am doing a science project on Hypnosis and may need tips

Postby The_Jazon » Wed Nov 26, 2003 2:21 am

Hello,
May I present myself, I am Jason (last name is undisclosed) am 14 years of age and I live in Canada. I am currently doing a science project named "Hypnosis and The Mind". I have been doing research for months on hypnosis since it has caught my attention a year or so ago. As a highschool student I plan on intoducing this fantastic tool to the rest of the school, who ignore its existance.
If any one has such help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you in advance! :D

Hello Jason!! Welcome to the forum.

I'm glad you're showing such a keen interest in hypnosis and it's good that you want to spread the word. Could you tell us what research you have done so far. Also, do you have any specific questions :?:

Andy.

Reply to the question: "What have you researched so far?"

I have already researched the basics of hypnosis, such as what it really is (a natural state of mind that happens many times, daily). I know how it happens (with any focused attention on something such as a book or movie or even street light).
My query in this god-given forum is the following: What kind of language/words is used in an induction. I don't want a script and I already know the tone of voice and the part about no negative words being said (which I shall not explain, because everyone else on this forum must know more/the same amount of info as me.

Thank-you for responding!

Hello again Jason,

Good types of words to use are called nominalisations. They're words that require you to go inside and they are different for everyone. They are often adjectives like: peaceful, curious, successful, strong...

There are lots of different language techniques you can use.
- confusion, which is just that, sentences that make little or no sense and so trying to make sense of it the person goes deeper
- binds or illusions of choice 'you don't have to go into trance quickly, just at a pace that suits you' - whatever they choose they'll go in...
- and just generally overlap all 5 sensory experiences.

Is that the kind of thing you wanted to hear in this god-given forum?

Yes that is basically it, but could you explain in more detail what you mean by "overlaping all 5 sensory experiences" For I am still quite ignaorant about many things, as no one knows everything on this Earth.

Thank-you again, and could a whole team of experts help, I can't believe only ONE has the heart to help a poor little 14 year old in his quest for a better understanding of hypnosis (AND a good term average). :) lol!

Jason,

The five senses are sight, sound, feeling, smell and taste. It's always best to try and use at least the first 3 as much as possible - 'notice the colours, listen to the sounds, and feel the temperature/sensations in the body....'

Hope this helps,
Andy.

PS. That's a good piece of wisdom to remember - we are all ignorant about many things in the world... :?
