I'm new.

Hi, I just registered. I really just want to learn as much as I can about psychology because the high school I am attending doesn't have any classes on the subject. I am looking into pursuing a career in psychology, I just don't know exactly what yet. I hope to figure that out with more research.
But on to a different subject:
A while back I experienced what I think was a panic attack. I woke up (I think) and I was panicing and very frightened. I couldn't think straight, I just kept breathing hard, my heart was pounding and I was trying to get comfortable to calm myself down. I tried to call my boyfriend whose number I could dial blind-folded, only to find that I was not able to steady my hands nor remember his number. It probably only lasted a few minutes or so but it felt like hours. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. I don't remember how it ended but as soon as I realized what had happened I called my boyfriend, and dialed the number as I always have, with no trouble.
A similar experience happened before. I woke up and went to the bathroom. I wasn't able to think straight and something was wrong. So i went to the kitchen. The kitchen also had something wrong with it and I started to panic. I tried to call my mom and later realized I was trying to call her on a calculator. I found my mom outside and I must have picked up a razor in the bathroom because I was holding one in the air. I was saying to my mom, "The bathroom is a car!" and I was determined to show it to her. Once we got to the bathroom "the car" was no longer there because my mind was coming back to me. I might have been embarassed if it wasn't for the fact that I was trying to figure out what I had just done and why.
Another happened when I was much younger. I woke up and couldn't move but within seconds I was able to move again.

Three strange experiences, all when I was just waking up.
Any thoughts?

hi ashes,

I do that all the time. I wake up and I am not sure if what happened really happened or not. I know youare researching and that will probably turn some people off to responding to you. But if youare having these problems, please talk about them. I know I probably freak my room mate out all the time because I wake up in the middle of the night and for some reason have something I just have to say. He doesn't care most of the time, but I can't get back to sleep with out telling him.

hi ashes

You mentioned that these experiences happened on waking up. It's possible that you were still in dream state, and the contents of your dream were muddled with your waking state. As you wake up fully, it passed. Disconcerting, but not unknown! So you would have been acting out of the "dream reality" (the place where a bathroom can easily be a car!).

Have a good look at the main uncommon knowledge site - could be useful for your research!

jezzie71-

Talking about it feels pretty good. It's like I've been keeping a secret and I'm finally getting it off of my chest.

kfedouloff-

That sounds about right. It did feel like I was dreaming except for the first one. That one didn't feel like a dream, more like a living nightmare. I couldn't explain why I was scared, but it was truly terrifying.

Thanks for both of your help. :)
