The 6 Pillars of Self-Esteem

Postby growselfesteem » Sat Nov 07, 2020 2:44 am

Dr. Nathaniel Brandon's famous book "The 6 Pillars of Self-Esteem" was a lifesaver for me to finally begin to understand how to cultivate my own sense of self-respect and self-efficacy.

For anyone unfamiliar, the 6 Pillars of Self Esteem are:

- The Practice of Living Consciously
- The Practice of Self-Acceptance
- The Practice of Self-Assertiveness
- The Practice of Self-Responsibility
- The Practice of Living Purposefully
- The Practice of Personal Integrity

The book talks about the daily habits and actions we take that contribute to these pillars of self-esteem and how they work interchangeably to prop each other up.

Since reading this book, one of the biggest eye opener's what the concept of "congruence".

When our values are exercised by the actions we take, we are living in congruence with our beliefs and a consequence greater self-esteem.

I created this post because if just one person out there has not read this book, and this is your first time hearing it's title, please pick up a copy.

It really does make sense of the chaos.

I'm glad to know the book helped you. Often recommend bibliotherapy myself.

Thanks Candid! I was unfamiliar with that term, "bibliotherapy". It's great :) Yes, Audible has been a huge help for me over the last few years. I've built up quite a toolset of resources. What are some of your favorite titles around self-development?

Heavy Plus 1 on your Louise Hay recommendation. I've been using her affirmation tracks from youtube for a couple of years now. Haven't heard of the other people on that list. I'll definitely check them out. Thanks. I'm sure there are also some awesome threads on this forum for Self-Development reading lists. Here I go, down the rabbit hole ;P

They're mostly old-hat now as I'm an older woman. Still, I got my copy of Claire Weekes's book Self-Help For Your Nerves in my darkest hour, and her gentle understanding of where I was at felt wonderful.
