Already mentioned different possibly reasons for certain mental health issues. Different forms of therapy will work better for some than others, depending on the cause. In some cases medication maybe the best solution.

Jerome Kagan a Professor of Psychology conducted studies and experiments on the subject. His work was also mentioned in the following books. Emotional Intelligence and Quiet.

The studies also suggest, personality traits and temperaments are genetic or biological.

And I already mentioned that this is not therapy. These are the principles underlying our psychological experience, which by extension, underlies those very therapies.

Certainly, if the issue is a biological issue, then that ought to be addressed at the biological level. In that case, one would do well in changing the way that they eat, as most of our problems stem from what we are putting into our mouths and ingesting.

See John Rose, Robert Morse ND. They can help one as to the why and the how of cleaning up these bodies in which we live. "You'll be in for a treat!"

It's the placebo effect. If you think it's working, it is. Takes the pressure off.

I'm with quietvoice on this: diet and exercise make a world of difference.

I'm all for diet and exercise, I'm big on fitness and weight training. I eat well and train 3 - 4 times a week every week for over 15 years. It helps with sleep and to regulate emotions, however it has its limits.

It may help but wont suppress a naturally high reactive amygdala. Studies suggest your prefrontal cortex can suppress it, hypnotherapy, developing more self awareness, positive thinking. I also believe that is what CBT is trying to achieve.

Some forms of anti anxiety medication are designed to suppress the amygdala aswell. The placebo effect is believed to account for about 30 percent of improvements from most medications.
