I listen to electronic trance music when meditating. It has to have a very regular beat with high shearing sounds... something about the way it distracts my brain really helps. Eventually the sound just fades into the background. Literally it's like my hearing just shuts off once I enter the correct state of meditation.
If I'm too aware then I'll detect my hearing fading and wake myself up.
Try some enya. But if your like me and don't really like that new agey stuff. Look for a song with a soft but constant beat, it's almost hypnotic and it helps me fall asleep.
Angus Dei - Samuel Barber and also Bear McCreary - Violence and Variations from the Battlestar Galactica Soundtrack Season 3. Very relaxing stuff indeed for me.
