Broke up because of depression.

My boyfriend of a year and a half just broke up with me due to feeling stressed about our relationship and generalised depression. It's not a fake reason he has isolated himself from friends as well and hasn't been feeling much of anything. We took a couple weeks space and met up to talk about what was going on he said he would be going back to his counselor. He always stops going once he starts to feel okay which I think is a mistake and he said he's go more consistently but that he needs to be on his own. I told him I respect what he needs and I'm still always here for him but he seemed unsure still when we talked. Yes were broken up but it doesn't feel over to me. He says were perfect together and so do our friends I know what my friends say doesnt matter it's just to show how similar and good together we are. He and I are very compatible and I still hold hope that once he starts working on himself more we can try again. I'm wondering if anyone has been in this position where an ex has come back once they have a better handle on their depression and anxiety? I'd especially be interested to hear how someone in his position has felt, has anyone had depression which caused then to leave their partner? If so did you regret the choice? Did you try to come back? Is this common with dwpression I know people often push others away but I don't know to what extent. And also I want him to know I'm still there for him so I was thinking of texting him in a few weeks to say I'm still here if you need me but other than that keep no contact...too much?.... too little?

They didn't breakup but you may be able to pick up something from the depressed person's perspective
