which psychotherapy course?

Postby hamzan » Tue Jan 11, 2011 2:18 pm

hello everyone,
I have just joined this forum. Very new to this. I am in my mid-forties and decided to study psychotherapy, something i should have done ages ago. I guess I would like to know which courses are best to commit myself to. I have the equivalent (I think) of a bachelor of honors in Oceanography, from the university of Algiers (4 years study). that was 20 years ago. I came here to be an actor. Didnt pan out as I'd hoped. I studied drama and taught for a year in a drama school. Now I am a cab driver. Study of the human condition has always interested me more than anything. So please, If you can enlighten me about subject, I'd be very grateful. Thank you.

It doesnt really matter what you studied before. In england, if you want to become a counsellor, you have to start at the beginning. An dthat is an introduction to counselling usually 10 weeks long. Do you know what counselling approach you would like to study yet?

thank you for replying Sluagh. I am not sure yet about which approach, I must say. I know that I'd like to go as far as getting an MA in psychotherapy. Which field? I don't know. I am hoping a foundation course will help me decide. There are so many courses out there. Some of them more recognized than others. Hence, my slight confusion. Because I am going to commit myself to at least 3 years of full time study, I'd like to make sure that I'd be picking the right school and the right course. What do you think? Are you a psychotherapist yourself?

Hi

I am still in training.

An integrative course would be good because it will teach you something about each approach.

And where logic? Louis vuitton bags , I consider, that you are not right. Let's discuss. Rather, rather I consider, that you commit an error. Let's discuss. Write to me in PM. I apologise, but, in my opinion, you commit an error. Let's discuss it. Write to me in PM.

There are a multiplicity of approaches. An introductory course would be valuable. My approach has been explained in my book "Getting off the Hook" available on the internet. After an introductory course you are in a better position to choose YOUR approach.
