I have never heard of evolutionary psychology, but I had some ideas which sound similar and link instinct to evolution.
It must be accepted that instinctive behaviour is coded into the genes. Is it possible that there is one linked to power and aggression which turns on when an individual attains a powerful position? This could be neccessary for evolution to be effective. The way to select the most successful is with competition and those cultures which tried to live in isolation, peace and harmony have made little progress and most are in decline.
Like many others,I am concerned about the apparent inability of the human race to behave in a rational peaceful way. The thought occurred that the world had been wound-up like a toy and was running down in a predetermined way. An automated globe? I had heard of a play 'The Clockwork Orange' so did a net search.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/4572/ not quite what I expected but the same idea.
A leader is elected and appears to want an ordered peaceful society but sometimes they change. It would be thought that a democracy, or a government which had a council or parliament, would be safe from irrational decisions but examples such as Hitler and Saddam Hussein are not easy to understand. Evolution may have a way to override democratic government.
Evolution may also have made it difficult for society to understand behaviour. There does not seem to be a lot of interest by the average person, and it would be expected that after hundreds of years, all aspects of human behaviour would be understood in great detail.
