So tired of this struggle

Postby brokenmom » Wed Apr 17, 2013 2:12 am

I stepped on the scale today and was horrified to see that I have hit my top weight ever. Im 255 pounds at 5 foot 2. I know there are a lot of people out there bigger than me, but its rare for me to walk into a room where anyone is. And after a three month attempt or working out and trying to eat right, I relapsed and have been in an out of control tail spin with binge eating every since. So for 5 months, I just eat and eat and eat. I've gained 15 pounds. I dont know how to stop. My partner of 10 years says It's just all in my head and if I wanted to stop I would. But I cant. What do I do?!!

It is important to realise that your physical health is strongly linked to the thoughts that you have about yourself. To improve your self respect, to increase your self approval, to have more self acceptance is all very much the foundation of a healthy body. The good thing is that all of these things can all start with your current thought.

You an say "I am willing to love myself, I am willing to approve of myself, I am willing to respect myself, I am willing to change" over and over again. You can write it down, you can make a recording of it. You are in control of your current thought and this is the point of power in your life.

You can then move on to affirmations about your eating.

"I eat the right amount of a healthy diet, I drink the right amount of healthy drinks"

and other areas of your life

"I have a wonderful balance between work, rest and play. I take the right amount of physical exercise"

I hope this helps

I have a lot of negative self thought. I can agree that putting positive self thought in there would probably help. It hard to because I'm in a co-dependent emotionally abusive relationship. So even when I'm not self hating, I got someone doing it for me quite often. But I will try. And thank you for your advice

This might be the biggest problem of obesity in our country. People overeat for many reasons, such as, low self esteem, it tastes to good, it's sitting there in front of them, boredom, or they want to get their money's worth. None of these are good reasons to keep eating. If you feel it's from low self esteem, you should probably get further help. Eat slowly, chew your food properly, and stop when you are full. All it takes is a little discipline to form the habit of not overeating.

Hey brokenmom,

Please do not get discouraged and used the scale digits as a motivation to change something about your life. Being brave enough to discuss the firs steps is already a great step forward towards a positive change and I would suggest continuing with the same spirits. If you would like, I can PM you several suggestions for diet and resting tips.

Think historically not calorically. Everyone knows if you eat less and move more you lose weight but that's not the whole story. If you are gaining weight that means you are putting yourself in positions to feel compelled to eat more and move less.

Fighting with your body will wok only for a short time if you want a long term success you need to make peace with it and collaborate with it. Your body is not your enemy it is just like a scared animal feeling comfort in eating. If you beat it up you will scare and lose its trust even more which will encourage it to eat more.

Think about your past. In what circumstanes and time were you thin? What made it easy to stick with a good routine?

"One year from now you will wish you had started today" - Karen lamb. This is one of my favorite quotes because it is so true. Just think about how fast each year is going by , especially as you get older. We all got a fire within us, and that fire can only be lit by you. Think about all the things you would like to do if you lost 75lbs or whatever your goal is. "The life you desire can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours."
P.S if you find yourself struggling or about to relapse, you should write down all the negatives and positives to losing weight, read them , then take a walk or a shower or something to get your mind off it. With each private victory your self discipline will grow stronger and stronger . That is the key to your success. I also am trying to quit an addiction but it is with weed, not food. Both strong addictions and today is day #2 for me. Let us look back a year from now and smile on how we did it ! how we became victorious

You need to get out of your co-dependent emotionally abusive relationship.

If you cannot get rid of that problem you can never fix you eating problems.

Fix the problem, not it's symptoms.

Wow you have a goal to lose weight. I wish I had a goal. I'm already a good weight to height.

I wish you all the best in losing weight.

Current Song I'm listening to,

Do nothing till you hear from me
Pay no attention to what's said
Why one should tear the seam of anyone's dream
Is over my head

Do nothing till you hear from me
At least consider our romance
If you should take the word of others you've heard
I haven't a chance

True, I've been seen with someone new
But does that mean that I'm untrue?
While we're apart, the words in my heart
Reveal how I feel about you

Some kiss may cloud my memory
And other arms may hold a thrill
But please do nothing till you hear it from me
And you never will!

My sister had this problem, but we knew this much eating was because of the pressure of her job and after a while when she could manage it she started to lose weight . actually she loves eating, if you have this problem and can't control yourself in front of delicious food try to have more physical activities. Try to do thing that make you feel good, calm, and comfortable in this situation you can think better and find better ways than eating, don't feel guilty after a big dish it cause you to eat more, and try to accept yourself in this shape, so you will see the beauties inside then you'll find a strong will to stop hurting your body.
Good luck
