Coming off Cipralex

Hi all

This is real hard and I pray that everyone gets out of such unpleasant condition...

I was reading this forum because my wife's doctor prescribed Cipralex to her yesterday and she is so hesitant of using it... after reading her I'm hesitant too.

She sometime gets upset or sad for no reason, she sometimes get scared also for no reason and sometimes she is just dull and not in mood of doing anything, all this started after the 2nd birth, doctor said its post birth depression... now, is that a good justification to start taking Cipralex or she better bear this disorder to avoid even bigger disorder... it's very confusing especially when time comes to stop the medication and all the side affects you are talking about!! Will it ever go? Or she'll have to be on medication forever??

This might sound silly to some of you, but I really need to make a decision about this... she still doesn't know about all what you have said here and I really don't know whether it's a good idea to tell her!! I'm totally confused.

Thanks to all of you

Hi.... and welcome

This is just my point of view, and I am no doctor. Cipralex does help when it comes to depression. When she feels better she will have to start going off the meds slowly and not in a rush. The symptoms go away, I´ve stopped taking the meds about 5 months ago and am symptom free. As a woman I would advise you to stand by her side as she takes the meds and when she has to get off them as well. Give it about 6 months, if she still doesnt feel good then another 3 and take it from there. But you can be sure, the symptoms go away.

I´m sorry for only replying now, but I actually thought no 1 came on here any more.

hi

Sorry for only replying now. The medication works, when you need it. As soon as you see you dont need them, ask the doc to lower your mg or even to start taking you off, it is quite simple, if you taking 10 mg, you go down to 5 and then start skipping a day, then 2, then 3, then 4... I think the hardest part arent the symptoms, but the fact that we start seeing reality again. Dont be scared of taking them though as they are in a way safer than prozac.
Please feel free to ask questions. I was on the meds for 2 years, in the beggining all was good, but after a while I started feeling really tired and putting on a lot of weight. Made some research and decided that it was time to stop taking the meds. The doc agreed and I have been off the meds for 5 months now. The symptoms are all gone, I dont have to stop my car to nap for 10 minutes after having a good night´s rest, I´ve lost about 7 kgs, which is 15 pounds.

Any thing you need, feel free to ask.

hlg.

P.S. I admire your job.

I was on cipralex for about 2.5 years. I decided to get off cold turkey this week>Its been 4 days and the symptoms I am having is irritability, anxiety, and headache. Its not so bad tho because I am off work all week and can be miserable in peace..lol
I am looking forward to loosing the 20 lbs I gained since being on Cipralex and getting my sex drive back. A week o hell is worth it to me rather than prolonging the withdrawl

IKEES,

I have only been on Cipralex for a couple months (maybe more, I am forgetful) but when I forgot two or three days I noticed pulsating through my fingers and head, like blood pumping.
cut the dose buddy, ease of the pill. when i first started taking it I had absolutely no faith in its power, and still am slightly skeptical, but the stats are out there, and your getting enough withdrawal symptoms as it stands.

Nah, Im good. I can handle the withdrawl. Rather rip the band aid off fast instead of prolonging the pain. :)

Did you manage to stay off them? If so how are you feeling ?.... I've been off them completely for 4 days and i feel like i'm drunk all the time. My head spins. I'm determined to continue as i'm feeling good in myself. I found your post inspirational,
